Principal Program Manager, Generative AI (Genie)
Red Hat
Job Summary
Join Red Hat's Intelligent Experience Delivery team and play a vital role in defining and delivering our AI-first future. We are looking for an experienced and collaborative Principal Program Manager to lead cross-functional teams in developing, productizing, and scaling cutting-edge Generative AI capabilities.
This role requires a leader who can translate strategic business objectives into clear technical execution plans for large-scale, complex GenAI programs. If you excel in fast-paced environments, possess exceptional communication skills, and are passionate about driving impactful, ethical AI change, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
At Red Hat, our commitment to open source innovation extends beyond our products - it’s embedded in how we work and grow. Red Hatters embrace change – especially in our fast-moving technological landscape – and have a strong growth mindset. That's why we encourage our teams to proactively, thoughtfully, and ethically use AI to simplify their workflows, cut complexity, and boost efficiency. This empowers our associates to focus on higher-impact work, creating smart, more innovative solutions that solve our customers' most pressing challenges.
What You Will Do:
Program Leadership & Strategy: Lead the large-scale cross-functional effort to align Marketing, Product Engineering, and Experience Engineering teams on a unified vision, scope, and architectural strategy for Red Hat’s intelligent front door. This includes leading the complex dependency and risk management between multiple teams, ensuring a cohesive, non-siloed, multiagent system.
AI Roadmap & Delivery: Develop and maintain the master plan, schedule, dependency log, and status across multiple GenAI projects, from foundational model selection and fine-tuning to deployment and post-production monitoring.
Strategic Vision for AI: Collaborate with senior stakeholders to define and socialize a strategic technical and architectural vision for Generative AI solutions that meet key business objectives while ensuring scalability, reliability, and responsible AI practices.
Responsible AI Governance: Actively partner with Legal and Security teams to define and embed ethical AI guidelines, data governance, privacy, and compliance into the model lifecycle.
Risk & Decision Management: Conduct collaborative meetings to facilitate key technical decision-making, proactively identify and mitigate program risks associated with AI/ML systems (e.g., hallucination, latency, bias), and address program issues.
Stakeholder Alignment & Communication: Cultivate strong, trusted relationships with functional leaders and business partners, translating complex technical concepts (like LLMs, inference costs, or model performance) into clear business value and providing comprehensive status reporting to all levels.
Process Excellence: Lead and implement process improvements through change management, focusing on optimizing the ML Ops pipeline, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and validation methodologies for AI solutions.
What You Will Bring:
10+ years of experience in technical program or project management, with extensive experience managing large software portfolios and collaborating across business and technical domains.
Exceptional skill in aligning diverse functional sponsors and teams, including Business Unit, Experience Engineering, Product Engineering, and Marketing.
Proven success in leading large-scale transformation projects, ideally involving the development and deployment of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), or Machine Learning (ML) systems at scale.
Strong grasp of AI/ML lifecycle, data governance, model evaluation metrics, and the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to thrive under pressure, navigate ambiguity with confidence, drive clarity and structure in fast-paced, evolving environments, and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices, with the ability to balance engineering agility against longer-term stakeholder planning and infrastructure readiness for AI deployment.
Desire to work in an open organization; open source participation, and a commitment to fostering an environment of ownership, transparency, and accountability.
Detail oriented and able to work in a very fast-paced environment.
